“It Could Have Been Different - Part 3″
(a.k.a - “Two young people fell in love and we all showed up”) ;-)
It’s the post-wedding “Buckingham Palace balcony” wave - Wakandan style!  As you (and the thousands of assembled adoring subjects) can plainly see, the new royal bride and groom are very, very happy!
Despite the fact that camera crews were not allowed to film the actual wedding ceremony itself, I hear that there was fierce competition amongst CNN’s foreign correspondents when it came time to decide who would be allowed to go to Wakanda for this momentous event (just kidding - it was always going to be Christiane Amanpour).

The Neolithic farming communities had a nonlinear sense of time, believing that time began anew with each new year. The pregnant Mountain Mother gave birth in August when the seeds, spring-planted in her womb, had grown large. At that time the entire community came to be with her: the divine birth is the harvest of the wheat, and the first fruits were offered to the Goddess. Similar mysteries were enacted in Eleusis around Demeter, the Grain Mother. In Britain she was known as Bride, Ana, or Danu, and she was celebrated on her womb/mounds in August as late as the seventeenth century A.D. Great assemblies of witches traditionally gathered on Lammas Eve (August 1), the people believing that their welfare in the coming year depended on the performance of these sacred rites of the Corn Mother, or Harvest Queen. (The Christian church throughout Britain finally took drastic action against this "pagan cult worship." The Christian priesthood preaches linear, not cyclic time, hoping to separate "man" from the Goddess of Nature, and "God" from the great cosmic rhythms of creation. As many wise people have observed, the way to control human life is to control the rhythm of life. Pagan life was ruled by natural cyclic rhythms. The church opposed these female rhythms with linear-historic ones, thus trying to change human rhythm from natural to mechanical—which serves the industrial process but leaves human life and labor, including agricultural life and labor, quite alienated.)

Some people think that portraying the Greco-Roman Underworld as wretched place is reading Christianity onto Greco-Roman beliefs.
Those people need to read Greco-Roman mythology and learn the history of Christianity.
Thus solemn rites and holy vows we paid To all the phantom-nations of the dead; Then died the sheep: a purple torrent flow'd, And all the caverns smoked with streaming blood. When lo! appear'd along the dusky coasts, Thin, airy shoals of visionary ghosts: Fair, pensive youths, and soft enamour'd maids; And wither'd elders, pale and wrinkled shades; Ghastly with wounds the forms of warriors slain Stalk'd with majestic port, a martial train: These and a thousand more swarm'd o'er the ground, And all the dire assembly shriek'd around. Astonish'd at the sight, aghast I stood, And a cold fear ran shivering through my blood; Straight I command the sacrifice to haste, Straight the flay'd victims to the flames are cast, And mutter'd vows, and mystic song applied To grisly Pluto, and his gloomy bride.

I read "The Book of Renfield: a Gospel of Dracula" so you don't have to! Spoilery synopsis below, including Renfield's full name and some of my thoughts.
Name: Renfield's full name is.... Renfield. He was a foundling raised by a priest known only as R.M. Renfield. What those R and M stood for is never disclosed. In his infinite grace, the dude gave the child name "Renfield." That's all. I guess he was Renfield Renfield? After Renfield's death, Seward feels bad about this lack of proper name and puts "Rhys Malvern Renfield" on his tomb. One hell of a name. Powers: Killing and eating cute small animals gave Renfield the power to see them ghostly blue lights that signify buried treasure. Those were his livelihood in the years between the priest's death and Seward's asylum. It wasn't fully clear to me, but looks like another power was that a mix of human milk and blood would appear in his mouth and sustain him O_o. And maybe he had to eat insects for that to happen. Death: In this one, Renfield dies in an attempt to protect Mina from Dracula. (In some other interpretation it looks more like he's jealous of Dracula selecting Mina over him, so he's not so much protecting her as trying to prevent Dracula from giving her eternal life) In this book, too, Renfield realizes that his whole life's purpose was to let Dracula into Seward's asylum, and he's angry about that. Description: pear shaped, gray-haired, 59-ish Origins: The villagers believed that an evil lived in the woods, and they had to occasionally sacrifice a baby to appease it and get some good harvests and such. Renfield was one such baby. The priest found the baby before the evil came to claim it. For this, the villagers hated and feared the poor kid and resented the priest for ruining their sacrifice. In the mean time, the evil (which to me appears to have been one of Dracula's many brides) keeps an eye on the kid and eventually starts working as a housekeeper of sorts for the priest. She's introduced to us as a beautiful Romanian woman, Madame Vulpes, a.k.a. Milady). She educates Renfield and tells him about his origin and his great destiny. Beliefs and morals: Renfield is a very devout Christian up until the moment he finds out that animals don't have souls. He disagrees. He loves animals and has a pet rat, Jolly. He all but hates people, which is reasonable with how the village has been treating him. He especially hates his mother for abandoning him. When the priest later tells him he was forcibly taken from her to be sacrificed, he kills the priest and is tormented for the rest of his life about his unkindness toward the poor woman (he was very mean to her on her deathbed). Renfield is forced to kill his beloved Jolly for Milady to finally grant him his powers. He struggles with killing small animals for the rest of his life, and sometimes went for months or even years without the benefit of the blue lights.
Premise: Dr. Seward's great-great-son, Martin Seward, finds a bunch of notes and wax cylinders with Renfield's biography as told by the patient himself, transcripts of his notebook, and Seward's own diary from those days. Martin believes it his duty to make the world aware of it all, and assembles it into a book. He also implies that Walt Disney is Dracula o_O.
My impressions: I didn't love it, unfortunately. Both of the main characters, Renfield and Dr. Seward, are presented in a rather unflattering light, and reading a book about unpleasant people isn't very pleasant. I do very much appreciate some illumination on where Renfield came from and how he came to know Dracula as his master without ever meeting him in person. There's lots of, um, unusual stuff happening. Renny is fixated on mother's milk, and Milady gives him some. He also "steals" some from a foster family he stays with for a brief time. At one point, Seward goes to a public house and sleeps with a woman covered in fur and possessing many nipples.
Favorite moment: In the end of the book Seward recounts his conversation with Lucy, where Lucy tells him that his flustered state around her made it clear to her that he feared her too much to truly love her. That was the main reason she turned him down. I really liked that bit.

Virginity & Marriage in Medieval Times — The “Virginity Test” and How Women “Cheated” Such Tests.
Tumblr media
Berthold Furtmeyr, The Tree of Death and Life, Munich, Germany, 1489
Throughout the ages, a woman’s virginity was a highly prized attribute and a symbol of purity. Women were expected to be free from the stain of the sin of sex before marriage. It was impossible for a woman to lose her virginity before marriage and be considered “holy” but unsurprisingly, this standard did not exist for men. Medieval Christianity told women that, as the daughters of Eve, they are responsible for the fall of mankind due to their innate sin and this heavily influenced ideas of women’s sexuality–including the importance of virginity before the holy sacrament of marriage.
As we know, you were expected to be a virgin when getting married for the first time, and to prove that the woman was indeed a virgin, they inspected the bedsheets for blood after the consummating of the marriage. (I would of been shamed/exiled/killed/whatever punishment they laid upon me back then as I did not bleed my first time 😂)
Tumblr media
Miniature from Le livre appelle Decameron by Giovanni Boccaccio, 1460s
What we know about the female body and modern medicine now, is that you don’t always bleed during your first time—that the hymen doesn’t always stretch/tear from your first time having sex. It can happen earlier on in life from various things, you could be born without a hymen or you could have a hymen that just doesn’t bleed, as the hymen doesn’t necessarily “tear”, it usually stretches because the hymen is a thin wall of membrane that extends across the vaginal opening but it usually has an opening (a “hole”) already in it that then stretches during sex (if it didn’t already earlier on in life) UNLESS you have an imperforate hymen which will tear and then stretch as it doesn’t have a hole in it at all.
It’s actually more common for women NOT to bleed than it is to bleed during their first time, or to bleed so little that it’s not very noticeable. The fact that a lot of women’s reputations and very lives depended on if they bled or not which was wholly out of their control, is just INSANE to me, but it’s very interesting how women dealt with this and prepared for if they didn’t bleed.
Tumblr media
Book of Hours (Cistercian), ca. 1440, Walters Manuscript W.218, fol. 28v
Women often deployed methods to make themselves bleed or fake the fact that they bled, on their wedding nights. In the Trotula (an assembly of texts on women’s medicine written in the 12th century that was widely circulated and depended upon by women up until the 16th century), such methods are listed. A “How to Cheat a Virginity Test” guide, if you will. Some suggestions being:
* Arranging the Wedding when the Bride is on her period.
* Substituting the bride with another woman when it came to consummate the marriage. (Lol—the fact that this would work a lot of times… men 🙄 😂)
*Have a vial of Goat’s blood hidden under the pillow or somewhere and dash it on the sheets when the groom is not looking.
*A mixture of Herbs to bring on a period.
* Lastly, one of the more interesting and unusual methods was to put a leech on the labia (yes, you read that correctly) a few days before hand so that it creates a wound that will then turn into a scab and then during the rigorous motion of having sexual relations, the scab falls off and bleeds. 😳
Tumblr media
Early 14th century (France), a copy of the intermediate Trotula ensemble, p. 65 (detail): pen and wash drawing meant to depict "Trotula"
Many Women were aware that “popping your cherry” during your first time didn’t always happen, or they weren’t virgins as their religion and society so unrelentingly demanded, and the fact that the method of confirming virginity with the sight of blood upon the sheets was relied upon (the “virginity test”) for years and years just goes to show how little women’s knowledge and experience were valued back then—even when it came to their own bodies! So, women did what they always have done: take matters into their own hands.

A good Christian marriage.
A good Christian marriage is to the glory of God. If everything runs smoothly and delightfully in love and according to the Bible, it glorifies God. The opposite detracts from the glory of God. Keeping your marriage good in the eyes of God is very important. It is a type of the glory of Jesus and his bride. Keep your marriage perfect before God, and in obedience to the written word in the Bible. The husband is the loving head and first authority and priest of the home. It is his responsibility to see to it that God is glorified in the home or marriage, and to teach the word of God and sanctify his household before the Lord. The wife is the type of the bride of Jesus, so that she glorifies God by being in subjection to her husband, and also as an example for the children of devotion and obedience and submission, to her husband, as an example of devotion and obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord Jesus is the head of the husband, and the husband sets the example for this by obeying and being devoted to the Lord Jesus Christ. The order of authority is very important.
Eph 5:22-33 [WEB] Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the assembly, being himself the savior of the body. But as the assembly is subject to Christ, so let the wives also be to their own husbands in everything. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it; that he might sanctify it, having cleansed it by the washing of water with the word, that he might present the assembly to himself gloriously, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without defect. Even so husbands also ought to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself. For no man ever hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it, even as the Lord also does the assembly; because we are members of his body, of his flesh and bones. “For this cause a man will leave his father and mother, and will be joined to his wife. The two will become one flesh.” This mystery is great, but I speak concerning Christ and of the assembly. Nevertheless each of you must also love his own wife even as himself; and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
Col 3:18-21 [WEB] Wives, be in subjection to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and don’t be bitter against them. Children, obey your parents in all things, for this pleases the Lord. Fathers, don’t provoke your children, so that they won’t be discouraged.
Titus 2:4, 5 [WEB] that they may train the young wives to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sober minded, chaste, workers at home, kind, being in subjection to their own husbands, that God’s word may not be blasphemed.
1Pet 3:1-7 [WEB] In the same way, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; so that, even if any don’t obey the Word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word, seeing your pure behavior in fear. Let your beauty be not just the outward adorning of braiding the hair, and of wearing jewels of gold, or of putting on fine clothing; but in the hidden person of the heart, in the incorruptible adornment of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God. For this is how in the past, the holy women who hoped in God also adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands. So Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord, whose children you now are, if you do well, and are not put in fear by any terror. You husbands, in the same way, live with your wives according to knowledge, giving honor to the woman, as to the weaker vessel, as also being joint heirs of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.

A Word to Seminary Students
Tumblr media
Seminary is a privilege. Many Christians around the world and throughout history have not been able to pursue concentrated Biblical study under the leadership of Bible scholars. They have been prevented by money, opportunity, persecution, and so on, but I want to write to those who have been granted the unusual grace of attending a seminary and I want to urge you: don’t waste this unique opportunity of God’s grace. Here are a few words of wisdom to the first-year seminary student.
1. Humble Yourself
One of the greatest enemies of your spiritual growth is pride. God opposes the proud and gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). This principle is true for all of life, but it is especially true for the seminary environment. You are not an elite Christian because you decided to go to seminary. You are not a theologian because you took a systematic theology course, and you are not necessarily godly because you are writing papers on the doctrine of God. There is an overwhelming temptation in our Christian subculture of podcasts and conferences to see seminary as nothing more than a stepping stone to the public ministry platform that so many desire. If your end goal is a big platform and a lot of social media followers, I pray that by God’s grace you will not have one, for it would be destructive to your own soul and to the audience you are using for your own affirmation. Ministry is self-crucifying, God-glorifying, and pride-crushing. Embrace it. Listen a lot. Humbly learn from people that you agree with and disagree with. As you approach the deep things of God, be humbled by how much you don’t know and strive to both know Him more and model the humility in which He is pleased.
2. Devote Yourself to the Local Church
Seminary is not your priority, not even for a short season. It is secondary. It is the supportive role of a far more important institution—the local church. Finding and committing yourself to a local assembly of believers should be of the utmost importance early in your seminary career for it is the local church that will be your most life-changing professor. It is the place where theology comes to life. It is where orthodoxy becomes orthopraxy that results in doxology. The local church is the bride of Christ (Ephesians 5:22-23), the body of Christ (1:22-23), the family of God’s adopted children (2:19), the blessed temple of God the Spirit (2:21-22). Study the church while you serve the church. Don’t ignore her or slander her in your preparation to serve her for the rest of your life.
3. Study the Bible
This word of wisdom may seem silly. Of course, you are going to study the Bible at a seminary. Not necessarily. There will be a temptation to focus your attention in several directions. Here are two examples. Some are tempted to give all their time, thought, and devotion to learning how to do ministry. These are the students that love the practical classes. They say things like, “I’m a doer” or “I’m more of a practical application guy.” Others are more intrigued by “the deep things.” They want to read all the theology from all the quotable authors and theologians past and present. They dream of stroking their beards in long conversation over ancient debates. Neither practical application nor theological depths are bad. I personally enjoy both. But Scripture reigns supreme.
Seminary is a time to saturate yourself in the study of the Scriptures. Practical application is pointless if you do not know the Scriptures that you are supposed to be applying. Practical application in ministry will also shift between cultures, time periods, and ministries. The Scriptures won’t. A deep and rich understanding of the Bible will transcend all ministry contexts from mission work in China to youth pastoring in northern Luzon. Likewise, you will not be able to discern between the many doctrinal debates past, present, and future if you have listened only to the voices of debaters rather than the voice of God in the Scriptures. Do not forsake other disciplines, but prioritize the discipline of Biblical study.

A Greater Revelation of the Times & Seasons of God: Aligning with the Hebrew Calendar
God is now bringing forth a greater revelation of the glory of the Lord on earth.
We are seeing the redemption of all things lost taking place spiritually. All things were redeemed by Jesus, and now we are called to activate this on earth. We are seeing a revelation of the redemption of time, understanding heavenly places, living in Heaven on earth when our bodies are not dead, a victorious mindset of the Lion of the tribe of Judah, and a release of the glory of God. As the Church or bride of Christ grows more in these truths, we will begin to dominate on earth, as we change the earth through our heavenly revelatory understanding. We are the ones taking the church into the year 6000 and the Lion of the tribe of Judah revelation of the ages. The heavens are declaring this truth (Psalm 19:1-6).
In understanding the ages we cannot leave out the revelation of the 12 Tribes of Israel as they are seen in the night sky represented by a specific constellation. These 12 Tribes each have a special place in Aaron’s breastplate, in accordance with Exodus 39:14 (NKJV), “There were twelve stones according to the names of the sons of Israel: according to their names, engraved like a signet, each one with its own name according to the twelve tribes.” Each month you read about in this book has a corresponding tribe of Israel along with its constellation in the night sky, along with the correct gemstone that represents that tribe from Aaron’s breastplate. All of this points to the revelation of creation through to the tribe of the Lion of Judah and the great ROAR that His people are bringing forth in His authority today.
What Age Are We in Now?

The Scriptures relate to this shift from the law to grace when the author of Hebrews prophesies what is to come. This is the revelation of the Church today. The Torah or law on Mount Sinai was the revelation of who God is and His demands to worship Him only and the setting up of the law, which we read of in the Hebrew month of Sivan, only to have Jesus meet the whole law and now propel the Church to Mount Zion, a heavenly Jerusalem. As more Christians see the Lord in His majesty from His throne room and have heavenly encounters, we are now in the age of the release of the glory on earth and the roar of the Lion of the tribe of Judah.
As we properly take our place with Him and exude His glory, heavenly signs, miracles, and wonders will ensue. It will be a release of His Spirit presence and glory in more ways than we can see now. We will rule in authority as the ambassadors of the King!
The following Scriptures describe the Feast of Shavout, or Pentecost, the differences in the Law and the Spirit, both aspects of Jesus, who is the Word revealed in different ages (John 1). The author of Hebrews gives his best understanding of the differences between the years of 2000-4000 when the law was the prevalent system, and 4000-present when the law is met. Yet now we learn to rest as His royal children in heavenly places; and because of learning to live the ascended life with Jesus, in two places, both Heaven and earth daily, we will be the ones to usher in the glory.
Hebrews 12:18-29 (NIV):
You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them, because they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.” The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”
But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
See to it that you do not refuse him who speaks. If they did not escape when they refused him who warned them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven? At that time his voice shook the earth, but now he has promised, “Once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heavens.” The words “once more” indicate the removing of what can be shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain.
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire.”
Messianic believers and Gentile Christians, it is time to open our eyes to the end of one age, and the revelation of another. We are moving into what I like to call the rulership of the children of the Lion of the tribe of Judah walking in a new Age of Glory! A release of the glory of the Lord into the earth made possible by Jesus’s death, burial, resurrection, and the understanding of being in heavenly places as the Church raised and seated with Him responds from this seat on earth today. We are the releasers of the glory in the ages to come and the prophets called to share the news of the shift of the ages. We are ones crying out in the wilderness, “Prepare ye the way of the Lord” (Matthew 3:3 KJV). We are crying out a shift is here from one age to the next, and you are reading this book as the revelation of both.
This glory release will also cause a one world government not of evil, but of believers who are standing up in the glory with the King behind them to defeat powers of evil for good. The enemy now is hijacking our understanding of one world government by creating fear in believers. These terms are to be for the holy nation, but instead are hijacked by the enemy who stirs evil and robs God’s people of their sovereignty and freedoms. This holy government under the headship of our Lord and King Yeshua Messiah, roars like Judah. It is a world where the One New Man (Humanity) exists and there is a revelation of both Jew and Gentile coming together.
This is why it is so important that we go back to the Garden of Eden in our hearts and minds as a replica of Heaven. We pray for Israel and a uniting of the nations for King Jesus. According to the resurrection and ascension of Jesus, we have returned there because He redeemed all things and this is where we live—ascended with Him now. We must be fruitful, dominate, subdue, replenish, and multiply the Kingdom as rulers with a ROAR, as His holy nation under the dominion of the King.
You are the key to the expansion of the glory in this new time of the coming Kingdom. We are the roaring prophets who declare a new age is coming and glory will be released. We are saying, “Kingdom people prepare yourselves.” This is the voice of the “shift prophets” at work today on earth.

Morning and Evening with A.W. Tozer Devotional: January 10th
Tozer in the Morning Sin's Cure
Only God could reconstruct the world and allow for such reversals of fact; but anyone can tinker at it theoretically. Had Hitler, for instance, been a good and gentle man, six million Jews now dead would be living (making allowance for a certain few who would have died in the course of nature); had Stalin been a Christian, several million Russian farmers would be alive who now molder in the earth. And consider the thousands of little children who died of starvation because one man had a revengeful spirit; think of the millions of displaced persons who wander over the earth even today unable to locate mother or father or wife or child because men with hate in their hearts managed to get into places of power; think of the young men of almost every nation, sick with yearning for home and loved ones, who guard the empty wastes and keep watch on frozen hills in the far corners of the earth, all because one ruler is greedy, another ambitious; because one statesman is cowardly and another jealous.
To come down from the bloody plains of world events and look nearer home, how many wives will sob themselves to sleep tonight because of their husband's savage temper; how many helpless, bewildered, heartbroken children will cower in their dark bedrooms, sick with shock and terror as their parents curse and shout at each other in the next room. Is their quarrel private? Is it their own business when they fight like animals in the security of their home? No, it is the business of the whole human race. Children to the third and fourth generation in many parts of the world will be injured psychologically if not physically because a man and his wife sinned inside of four walls. No sin can be private.
Coming still closer, we Christians should know that our unchristian conduct cannot be kept in our own back yard. The evil birds of sin fly far and influence many to their everlasting loss. The sin committed in the privacy of the home will have its effect in the assembly of the saints. The minister, the deacon, the teacher who yields to temptation in secret becomes a carrier of moral disease whether he knows it or not. The church will be worse because one member sins. The polluted stream flows out and on, growing wider and darker as it affects more and more persons day after day and year after year.
But thanks be to God, there is a cure for the plague. There is a balm in Gilead. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9).
Tozer in the Evening Man - The Dwelling Place of God - The Decline of Apocalyptic Expectation
A SHORT GENERATION AGO, or about the time of the first World War, there was a feeling among gospel Christians that the end of the age was near, and many were breathless with anticipation of a new world order about to emerge.
This new order was to be preceded by a silent return of Christ to earth, not to remain, but to raise the righteous dead to immortality and to glorify the living saints in the twinkling of an eye. These He would catch away to the marriage supper of the Lamb, while the earth meanwhile plunged into its baptism of fire and blood in the Great Tribulation. This would be relatively brief, ending dramatically with the battle of Armageddon and the triumphant return of Christ with His Bride to reign a thousand years.
Thus the hopes and dreams of Christians were directed toward an event to be followed by a new order in which they would have a leading part. This expectation for many was so real that it quite literally determined their world outlook and way of life. One well-known and highly respected Christian leader, when handed a sum of money to pay off the mortgage on the church building, refused to use it for that purpose. Instead he used it to help send missionaries to the heathen to hasten the Lord's return. This is probably an extreme example, but it does reveal the acute apocalyptic expectation that prevailed among Christians around the time of World War I and immediately following.
Before we condemn this as extravagant we should back off a bit and try to see the whole thing in perspective. We may be wiser now (though that is open to serious question), but those Christians had something very wonderful which we today lack. They had a unifying hope; we have none. Their activities were concentrated; ours are scattered, overlapping and often self-defeating. They fully expected to win; we are not even sure we know what "win" means. Our Christian hope has been subjected to so much examination, analysis and revision that we are embarrassed to admit that we have such a hope at all.
And those expectant believers were not wholly wrong. They were only wrong about the time. They saw Christ's triumph as being nearer than it was, and for that reason their timing was off; but their hope itself was valid. Many of us have had the experience of misjudging the distance of a mountain toward which we were traveling. The huge bulk that loomed against the sky seemed very near, and it was hard to persuade ourselves that it was not receding as we approached. So the City of God appears so large to the minds of the world-weary pilgrim that he is sometimes the innocent victim of an optical illusion; and he may be more than a little disappointed when the glory seems to move farther away as he approaches.
But the mountain is there; the traveler need only press on to reach it. And the Christian's hope is there too; his judgment is not always too sharp, but he is not mistaken in the long view; he will see the glory in God's own time.
We evangelicals have become sophisticated, blas. We have lost what someone called the "millennial component" from our Christian faith. To escape what we believe to be the slough of a mistaken hope we have detoured far out into the wilderness of complete hopelessness.
Christians now chatter learnedly about things simple believers have always taken for granted. They are on the defensive, trying to prove things that a previous generation never doubted. We have allowed unbelievers to get us in a corner and have given them the advantage by permitting them to choose the time and place of encounter. We smart under the attack of the quasi-Christian unbeliever, and the nervous, self-conscious defense we make is called "the religious dialogue."
Under the scornful attack of the religious critic real Christians who ought to know better are now "rethinking" their faith. Scarcely anything has escaped the analysts. With a Freudian microscope they examine everything: foreign missions, the Book of Genesis. the inspiration of the Scriptures, morals, all tried and proven methods, polygamy, liquor, sex, prayer-all have come in for inquisition by those who engage in the contemporary dialogue. Adoration has given way to celebration in the holy place, if indeed any holy place remains to this generation of confused Christians. The causes of the decline of apocalyptic expectation are many, not the least being the affluent society in which we live. If the rich man with difficulty enters the kingdom of God, then it would be logical to conclude that a society having the highest percentage of well-to-do persons in it would have the lowest percentage of Christians, all things else being equal. If the "deceitfulness of riches" chokes the Word and makes it unfruitful, then this would be the day of near-fruitless preaching, at least in the opulent West. And if surfeiting and drunkenness and worldly cares tend to unfit the Christian for the coming of Christ, then this generation of Christians should be the least prepared for that event.
On the North American continent Christianity has become the religion of the prosperous middle and upper classes almost entirely, the very rich or the very poor rarely become practicing Christians. The touching picture of the poorly dressed, hungry saint, clutching his Bible under his arm and with the light of God shining in his face hobbling painfully toward the church, is chiefly imaginary. One of the biggest problems of even the most ardent Christian these days is to find a parking place for the shiny chariot that transports him effortlessly to the house of God where he hopes to prepare his soul for the world to come.
In the United States and Canada the middle class today possesses more earthly goods and lives in greater luxury than emperors and maharajas did a short century ago. And since the bulk of Christians comes from this class it is not difficult to see why the apocalyptic hope has all but disappeared from among us. It is hard to focus attention upon a better world to come when a more comfortable one than this can hardly be imagined. The best we can do is to look for heaven after we have revelled for a lifetime in the luxuries of a fabulously generous earth. As long as science can make us so cozy in this present world it is hard to work up much pleasurable anticipation of a new world order.
But affluence is only one cause of the decline of the apocalyptic hope. There are other and more important ones.
The whole problem is a big one, a theological one, a moral one. An inadequate view of Christ may be the chief trouble. Christ has been explained, humanized, demoted. Many professed Christians no longer expect Him to usher in a new order; they are not at all sure that He is able to do so; or if He does, it will be with the help of art, education, science and technology; that is, with the help of man. This revised expectation amounts to disillusionment for many. And of course no one can become too radiantly happy over a King of kings who has been stripped of His crown or a Lord of lords who has lost His sovereignty.
Another cause of the decline of expectation is hope deferred which, according to the proverb, "maketh the heart sick." The modern civilized man is impatient; he takes the short-range view of things. He is surrounded by gadgets that get things done in a hurry. He was brought up on quick oats; he likes his instant coffee; he wears drip-dry shirts and takes one-minute Polaroid snapshots of his children. His wife shops for her spring hat before the leaves are down in the fall. His new car, if he buys it after June 1, is already an old model when he brings it home. He is almost always in a hurry and can't bear to wait for anything.
This breathless way of living naturally makes for a mentality impatient of delay, and when this man enters the kingdom of God he brings his short-range psychology with him. He finds prophecy too slow for him. His first radiant expectations soon lose their luster. He is likely to inquire, "Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?" and when there is no immediate response he may conclude, "My lord delayeth his coming." The faith of Christ offers no buttons to push for quick service. The new order must wait the Lord's own time, and that is too much for the man in a hurry. He just gives up and becomes interested in something else.
Another cause is eschatological confusion. The vitalizing hope of the emergence of a new world wherein dwelleth righteousness became an early casualty in the war of conflicting prophetic interpretations. Teachers of prophecy, who knew more than the prophets they claimed to teach, debated the fine points of Scripture ad infinitum while a discouraged and disillusioned Christian public shook their heads and wondered. A leader of one evangelical group told me that his denomination had recently been, in his words, "split down the middle" over a certain small point of prophetic teaching, one incidentally which had never been heard of among the children of God until about one hundred years ago.
Certain popular views of prophecy have been discredited by events within the lifetime of some of us; a new generation of Christians cannot be blamed if their Messianic expectations are somewhat confused. When the teachers are divided, what can the pupils do?
It should be noted that there is a vast difference between the doctrine of Christ's coming and the hope of His coming. The first we may hold without feeling a trace of the second. Indeed there are multitudes of Christians today who hold the doctrine of the second coming. What I have talked about here is that overwhelming sense of anticipation that lifts the life onto a new plane and fills the heart with rapturous optimism. This is what we today lack.
Frankly, I do not know whether or not it is possible to recapture the spirit of anticipation that animated the Early Church and cheered the hearts of gospel Christians only a few decades ago. Certainly scolding will not bring it back, nor arguing over prophecy, nor condemning those who do not agree with us. We may do all or any of these things without arousing the desired spirit of joyous expectation. That unifying, healing, purifying hope is for the childlike, the innocent-hearted, the unsophisticated.
Possibly nothing short of a world catastrophe that will destroy every false trust and turn our eyes once more upon the Man Christ Jesus will bring back the glorious hope to a generation that has lost it.

ears, eyes - the generation that doesn’t let God move 🕊️❤️🌱
Glory to God for this Word, may He always get all the praise, all the honor and all the glory, that we never forget that His Word will take place one way or another, but a promise to whomever comes against His Word will see the sword take it’s rightful place in all of our lives.
Diving right in, if you look at Mathew 3:15, Jesus says that we must do the requirement as God says.
NLT, “But Jesus said, 'It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires. ' So John agreed to baptize him.”
In the book of Mark, in Mark 1:15 Jesus is doing the requirement that He states in Mathew 3:15.
ESV, “and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.””
In the book of Luke in Luke 2:49 we see that even as a child, before He was baptized, He was already doing the requirement of the Lord — going further into the book of Luke we see that in verse 4:4, Jesus is saying one of the most powerful, and the most true Scripture that is presented today (all scripture is powerful but this specific Scripture is the beginning of 40 nights of temptation.)
Luke 2:49 CSB, “"Why were you searching for me? " he asked them. "Didn't you know that it was necessary for me to be in my Father's house? “”
+
“But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone.’””
‭‭Luke‬ ‭4‬:‭4‬ ‭NLT‬‬
Now, in the book of John, we see when John the Baptist proclaimed Jesus‘s name because he testified and he witnessed the Holy Spirit descend like a dove over the head of Jesus after He was baptized. And what was the next thing that happened in John 1:38-39, Jesus looks around and He notices two disciples of John the Baptist following Him; something that I love about what Jesus said, makes me feel happy, because when we confess with our mouths what we need, if we are thirsty or hunger for righteousness we will receive, and that is exactly what these two disciples received from Him.
That’s the most beautiful thing about the Lord is that He is quick to talk to us about the new law, however He did not state the new law, in such obvious words like, “I introduce to you a new law”, no! but the apostle Paul mentions the new law, that is the law of the Spirit in Romans 8. Many people say, Christianity is man made, but in Jesus tells us in simple words that it won’t be us speaking Luke 12:11-12 ERV, 11 “”When men bring you into the synagogues before the leaders and other important men, don't worry about what you will say.”, 12, “The Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.””.
Now another amazing thing is that as Jesus is preaching to the crowds, the preachings He gave on the mountain was exactly an assemble of what James wrote in James 2:13 NIV, “because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.”, (Jesus mostly quoted Scripture, and in Psalms 51:14, 16 talks about ).
The Bible is a puzzle. You cannot just read it once and I’ll come together. No the Bible is meant to dive in deeper a verse that you have read examples, psalms 119:11, “I will write your word into my heart so that i might not sin against you.” at first glance you see it as if you’re talking to a person because when I first started, cause that’s how I saw it as but as time went by I read it deeper and deeper and deeper but it wasn’t because of my own understanding, because my flesh is incapable of understanding, what the Lord wants to show me. It’s His Holy Spirit that gives me His understanding which is a beautiful gift that is free to us all.
If you go back in Mathew, there is a part in the Bible that talks about the generation that was asleep and adulterous, now speaking about adultery as a single person is not easy for me, however I consider myself not single, because I consider myself to be with the Lord, because as the bride of the Lord, you are in a relationship with the Lord if you think otherwise, you need to ask Jesus to reveal to you this particular topic.
Jesus mentions about the generation that is asleep (unresponsive; very tremendously unresponsive is the same as unbelief) and adulterous and how are they asleep? when someone is unresponsive it’s because of their disbelief, someone who doesn’t believe and the sad thing here is that there are people who seem like they have faith but have a hollow faith. when they have a hollow faith they sleep on His voice and glorify themselves and start to work in the flesh. they do not do things for the Lord and if the Lord says to do one thing, they distract themselves with something that is not from the Lord, they distract themselves with desire and pleasures, with worldly things and titles, and everything that is not from the Lord because the Lord does not care about your worldly title; And speaking about adulterous, the minute you put something before the Lord that you care more about than Him; you have already committed adultery. If you care more about your mom or your dad? What is the Lord say those who put them before Him are not worthy of Him (Matt 10:37-39). putting humans before what the Lord has said that has to be done, those who disobey Him are people who have committed adultery because they have fear of humans and not fear of the Lord. because as my apostle said and a few days ago i heard another pastor say, “if your authority says something contrary to what the Lord has spoken, you have every right to obey the Lord and not your authority.”, this is something that will be accounted to us.
One of the most beautiful things that the Lord has always shown is that a heart that is after his heart, is a heart that is pure, a heart that is fully submitted to him is in love with him that means cutting off so many worldly things, and it is possible, because anything with Jesus Christ is possible.
The generation that became adulterous the generation that became asleep, did not let God move within them. They did not let God do His Will.
They did not allow God to change them to do something so magnificent where He deserves the glory and the honor.
Something that I remember a pastor talk about was how the Israelites had listened to those who were not giving faith, but actually speaking death, and we all know that those who do not have faith all they speak, is negativity and speak death into situations and because of the discouragement that the Israelites received, they lost the promise they spent 40 years trying to get to the promised land, originally it wasn’t more than 40 days because because of their rebellion they did not obey the Lord and had to suffer in order to get there and in the end, they didn’t even see that promise, not because the Lord took it back but because they were unfaithful, had no fear of Lord, were not responsive to His voice and what does Hebrews 3:8-12 TPT say? ““Don’t make him angry by hardening your hearts, like your ancestors did during the days of their rebellion, when they were tested in the wilderness. There your fathers tested me and tried my patience even though they saw my miracles for forty years they still doubted me! This ignited my anger with that generation and I said about them, ‘They wander in their hearts just like they do with their feet, and they refuse to learn my ways.’ My heart grieved over them so I decreed: ‘They will not enter into my rest!’ ” So search your hearts every day, my brothers and sisters, and make sure that none of you has evil or unbelief hiding within you. For it will lead you astray, and make you unresponsive to the living God.”
they are our example that we should not be someone who leaves the Lord whenever things go bad and then come back to Him when we need Him; it seems like God does work that way, but He really does not. The whole Bible talks about faithfulness from us to God, let that sink in, do not allow yourself to be part of the generation that is living now from the time that Jesus came to now; that becomes adulterous that becomes asleep and unresponsive, that becomes the generation that is in nothing because we are living in the end times we’re going to give account for everything we said, we did, everything we thought about, everything that was in our hearts, everything that we reacted to and how we did things and things we didn’t do. No one is truly prepared for that, but I pray that this message reached a heart that the Lord wants.
This message is for someone who is struggling to hear the Lord and I want to tell you that the Lord has been waiting for you to be obedient. He has been waiting for you to let go of that anger to stop idolizing your family, to stop idolizing your title, to stop idolizing your desires, and your pleasures to stop idolizing your feelings, to stop idolizing anything and everything that is not God because He gave that to you, He permitted you to be where you are and He is a Just God that will allow something to defeated if it rises against the knowledge of Christ. And give Jesus, give the Holy Spirit, give the Father, His rightful place that is at the throne of your heart.
Jesus loves you so much to see you abandon His promises for you. and I want to bless you with the same blessing that the Lord gave me and anyone who says that it is not possible. The word of the Lord says otherwise that we can bless people with the blessing that He has given us and that is that the Lord does not want to hold back any blessings from you if you just listen and be obedient to Him, He wants to give you everything that you want as long as it is not for selfish desire, as long as it’s not to hurt someone, as long as it’s not to look down at others; He will be faithful to you and give you the desires of your heart in Christ Jesus. Amen ❤️

To the next verse of Joel 2, the new international version
Rend Your Heart
12 “Even now,” declares the Lord,
“return to me with all your heart,
with fasting and weeping and mourning.”
13 Rend your heart
and not your garments.
Return to the Lord your God,
for he is gracious and compassionate,
slow to anger and abounding in love,
and he relents from sending calamity.
14 Who knows? He may turn and relent
and leave behind a blessing—
grain offerings and drink offerings
for the Lord your God.
15 Blow the trumpet in Zion,
declare a holy fast,
call a sacred assembly.
16 Gather the people,
consecrate the assembly;
bring together the elders,
gather the children,
those nursing at the breast.
Let the bridegroom leave his room
and the bride her chamber.
17 Let the priests, who minister before the Lord,
weep between the portico and the altar.
Let them say, “Spare your people, Lord.
Do not make your inheritance an object of scorn,
a byword among the nations.
Why should they say among the peoples,
‘Where is their God?’”
So we’re facing a HORDE of grasshoppers. Locusts. They’re eating everything, we’re hungry, we’re waking up to bugs in our rooms, we’re NOT having a good time.
But Gd still has hope for us.
We should think on our sins and repent of them, and realize that Gd is necessary in our lives. Who is Gd? What is Gd? Our love for our fellow man? Respect for creation? Trusting in some higher power? I cannot define who Gd is for you, or who Gd is for me in my heart of hearts.
How do you find Gd? By denying yourself? Ramadan just ended. And while I know that practicing other religions is… well, it brings to mind a lot of issues, certainly, it isn’t a bad idea to try and deny ourselves to focus on what matters. Christians have Lent after all, even if that’s practiced more by Catholics than Protestants.
Now, rend is to tear. Tear your heart, not your clothes. People used to do that, rip their clothes, stomp their feet, tear their hair- but we need to do a deep reflection. Who are we? What do we value?
Now, we don’t give offerings anymore to Gd. Not since the son of Gd died. But one interpretation that we could have here is that if one is steadfast and true.. perhaps the locusts will not destroy all of your crops. But we should give of what we have regardless. Can we afford a donation to charity? Some canned goods, if nothing else?
And the rest of the verse.. is there anything so important in our lives that we can’t stop, and take a minute, and pray?
I would say this: if the locusts come this year.. what if we did fast? Not forever.. but a week? Would that be so bad? To remind ourselves of the punishment being held by the others around us? To make us think about what is being paid by so many? And how would we do it?
“But biblical fasting didn't usually mean going without food or drink 24/7. The Jewish custom was to fast during the day but eat and drink as soon as it was dark. Jesus encouraged in his followers an intentional approach to fasting as a spiritual tool, not a biblical law.”
And so, Islam and Christianity and Judaism aren’t all that different. If we can, save for disabilities, and other physical needs, and age- perhaps it is something we should consider doing.
But who knows when the locust plague will begin?
But is it ever too soon to open our hearts?
